Morris & Co produced the beautiful Compton design
in 1896, as part of the furnishings for Compton Hall, Wolverhampton.
Although it was designed by his colleague Henry Dearle,
it shows the characteristics of William Morris himself,
with rich colors, exotic flowers and meandering leaves
Beth Russell has adapted this rich repeating design to needlepoint. The kits are true to the original colors,
with three shades blended in the background to retain
its soft warm tone. The plain black border serves
to frame the intricate design.
